- I need to use an image in a photomontage at twice the original size on a canvas of 225ppi. What scan resolution do I require? - Use formula Final Artwork Resolution[225] x Scale Factor[200%] = Scan Resolution [450]. So Answer = 450ppi.
- Name 2 things you might do to improve your montage before final proofing - Brightening [copy your layer and apply the screen mode, adjusting the opacity to suit. Use Stamp Visible if you brighten after the sharpening process] and Sharpening [you learnt the High Pass technique].
- How do you create custom line art from a photograph? -
- Change the Colour Mode of the photograph to Greyscale
- change the resolution to 1200ppi [Image > Image Size menu]
- choose Bitmap from the Color Mode menu…
- …and choose Custom from the subsequent bitmap conversion list. This will enable you to choose a Pattern from the thumbnail list that appears.
- You can define your own pattern by selecting an area from an image, choosing Define Pattern from the Edit menu, and following the above procedure. Your new custom pattern will now be available in the thumbnail Pattern list.
- BONUS - What is Interpolation? When you enlarge an image in photoshop without reducing the resolution, the computer has to add pixels where there aren't any. It does this by looking at adjacent pixels and using a formula to add the closest new pixels it can. This will cause a degradation of the image. To avoid interpolation, scan at higher resolutions to then reduce the image on the final canvas.
